The Federation of Accredited Extra-curricular Student Organization joins the planet as it

celebrates World Nature Conservation Day. A number of students and faculty participated in the said event.

The Office of Student Affairs in partnership with the Federation of Accredited Extra-curricular Student Organizations initiated an activity entitled “Magpakabana Kita: An Environmental Awareness Forum” last 28th of July 2018. It was held at ICT- AVR located at 4F, Building 9 of the university. Students from across colleges attended the said event.

Prior to the activity, the FAESO and its unit organizations had already made its first move by explicitly opening the eyes of the students during an event last Thursday – 26 th of July 2018. Deputies of the said organization dressed in ninja-like costumes holding pet bottles lunge the cafeteria at sharp noon. Inside their bottles were messages and the situations of fauna who suffered from man-made incidences.

Ms. Kris R. Galarpe, an environmental scientist, was the guest speaker of the forum. She is also a faculty of the College of Science and Mathematics.

Her talk was divided into two parts. For the first part, Ms. Galarpe talked about the changes of the biosphere, contrasting the environment from then and the present. To back up this notion, Ms. Galarpe showed statistics from credible sources showing the exponential change in values from 1950’s up to present times. She also laid the condition of the Philippines in accordance with this matter. This left the students astounded knowing that the condition of the biosphere is actually at stake.

For the second part, the talk came crucial. Ms. Galarpe presented a study on the state of proper waste management of the university. The FAESO and other organizations agreed on merging their ideas to make one collated Dark Green Project not just for the good of the students but for the community at large.

World Nature Conservation Day is celebrated on 28 th of July annually with the objective of increasing awareness about and protecting the natural resources.
