In continuation to the campaign, “Reduce Single-Use Plastic”, last August 31 (Day 3 of Intramurals), the deputies’ workforce rises as it hopes to attract more students to the said campaign. The main target which is to get half of the population of USTP community is still on the process.
On the third day, the support for the “Reduce single-use plastic waste” campaign from students lessened. Though the deputies applied strategies such as making an announcement in the entrance together with the help of the securities, still the deputies receive feedbacks like “Di sako mag sign kay makonsensiya kay mag hugaw- hugaw ra japun ko.”, “Dili sa ko kay kapuyan ko ug dala sa akong balunan.”, and “Dili sa kay basin mag lisud ko.” But this does not discourage the deputies but rather motivate them to show the students the importance of supporting the campaign.
One key problem that the earth is facing right now is the growing number of plastics that our environment can no longer contain. This evidently shows that the campaign will not just help the USTP community but also the world. Reducing plastics in our school will not just help maintain our surroundings clean but somehow awake students to be more responsible because our earth is under threat of dangers. Aside from roaming around the campus with placards that call attention, hit consciences and convince everyone to support the campaign and sign the signature sheets, the volunteers also sell Bamboo straw. This is also one way of showing that we can have other alternatives for plastics. In this case, Bamboos are way better since it is the fastest growing plant and one of the most sustainable raw materials. The profit from this will also serve as the funds for upcoming projects.
There still a long way for this campaign to be implemented but with willingness and determination, we can make it.
